Can't wait ? For what ? It's a gamed-up carnival set to open to certain crowds--but for how long? Too soon after it opens you'll see the under-poverty level "folks" spending their gov't checks here, hoping for that one big score (they've waited for all their lives--poor souls--hoping their scratch tickets eventually win too ) Little matter it opens "dressed down" from original plans, can you see any modicum of ballyhoo for a "vegas" style....anything....in Everett?? MA with (eventually) three failing casinos ?
It's going to cause the crime rate to go through the roof. Not to mention the traffic is already horrible. This is just going to make it worse. Everett is a dump. Terrible place for a casino.
Everett as a destination? Wynn has to be thinking 'this could be a great write-off for me' Tune in to Chronicle three years from now (Sept '17) to see the wind blowing trash around the casino, diminished crowds, another 'Great Recession' taking hold, crime up in Everett, casino employees striking for 'living wages' and so on and so on...Get me out of here.
Few people realize the positive impact this will bring to the area... The orange line WILL run 24/7/365 and there WILL be a commuter rail station on the existing tracks behind the casino... how do I know this? Steve Wynn is going to remove ANY bottleneck to the flow of revenue to his business and these are two huge ones. This will also bring changes to the 2am club closing laws as the Casino will have an unfair advantage if they are allowed to serve alcohol in the traditional manner of 24hrs. The next 5 years will be a great time to invest in the Entertainment Industry in the Boston area...
